When Oprah gets on board, it is mainstream or about to be.

I do no watch Oprah that often. Though I often wonder why not now that my DVR is clear of the hundreds of hours of kid programming that my kids have outgrown. (Yes I dumped it- figuring that when they want it later in life, whatever library or ebay exists then will have everything. Though I would pay cash for a mostly complete set of The Electric Company.)

I mean if nothing else, keeping up with whatever Oprah is focused on seems like a relatively painless way of having some idea what my mainstream neighbors are talking about. Recent shows include "14- year old couples ready to have sex," "13 year old lured and held as sex slave", "Stars of Country Music", "Unconventional Dads," "Secret lives of Moms," "How to talk to your kids about sex." "recession proof your marriage," and "Ageless living with Dr Oz."

And the Ageless LIving topic was two consecutive shows and coverage in the magazine ("O") and on the website.

So a lot of teen sex and some other stuff, but two hours of an actual mainstream m.d. talking about life extension. But I don't watch so I missed the tv broadcast and will have to wade through Oprah-land on the web to get the scoop. If I can and it seems worthwhile, I'll post an update here with a summary.

It seems worthwhile to explain how I found out about the two shows. I was cruising my Yahoo email, which I give out when I want industrial strength spam filtering (my ISP and domain host are almost useless). And I got a banner ad for Dr. Oz and resveratrol.

Now I have been aware of resveratrol ever since Ray Kurzweill and Terry Grossman promoted it in Fantastic Voyage: Live Long Enough to Live Forever a few years ago. In fact, if you count hearing about something but not having any clue what was being discussed, I've been aware of resveratrol since mainstream news media have been reporting on the possible health benefits of red wine.

Just now (April 16 1900z) a google search for 'resveratrol' yields 3.8 million results. And a google search for '"white gold" powder' yields only 1/10th as many. And while I'm willing to believe that the miracle curative powers of white gold are still largely undiscovered my point is still made. Longevity research is going mainstream.

And despite the privacy protection implications, I hope that Yahoos is watching my email enough to give me targeted stuff that I actually might care about.

I mean, I want the web to get to know me and try and give me useful information that I believe is out there and unknown to me but for me knowing to look for it.

Anyhoo- I don't know how to link to Specu-history, but I'm sure the Speculist has discussed reseveratrol supplements long before Dr Oz started hawking them via Oprah.

nice, really nice!

What happens when she starts talking about something already experiencing an enormous growth curve?

And how do we get her interested in the space elevator?

Michael, that was good stuff. I'd pay to watch Electric Company. Was it Electric Company, or 3-2-1 Contact that had Spiderman vignettes?

Anyway, thanks for the reference to Ray Kurzweill and Terry Grossman's Fantastic Voyage: Live Long Enough to Live Forever. I've got a purely informational site about resveratrol and knew nothing about this. Very helpful.

Come check out our site and see what other wisdom you can impart on us. http://www.benefits-of-resveratrol.com

Thanks man,

This site is very cool throughout the Internet by a hot girl Clik

Yeah, it's definitely mainstream now. And it's a great opportunity for those who'd like to do some affiliate marketing in the supplement industry. Ever since Dr. Oz, it's been exploding.
