The most obvious improvement would be to display this personal to the user - eyeglasses now, contacts later, neural implants much later.
Eyeglasses seem obvious because you could more easily integrate a display and even sound into the frame. The power cost would be much less too.
Major upside to the glasses idea: you don't have to actually display "major loser, run away!" on some guy's shirt.
