The topics:

  • Timothy Ferriss' book "The 4-Hour Work Week."

  • Ferriss referenced a work-out that Phil is trying. Slow reps with low weight until failure. Phil suspects he'll be sore Monday. We'll get a report next week.

  • Mark from Las Angeles called and asked about Internet censorship. Certainly there is always a temptation to silence critics when possible. Completely totalitarian countries like North Korea don't allow their citizens any access to the Internet. China is trying a middle road to allow business to operate while certain political topics are off-limits.

Stephen said that openness seems to be carrying the day at this time. Phil and Stephen are hopeful that this remains the case in most of the world.

Mark also talked about a pay-for-content model. It seems that approach - AOL, CompuServe, Prodigy - has been completely dominated by the open Internet model.

  • Stephen recommended the book "The Great Train Robbery." He couldn't put it down.

Phil and Stephen agreed that a big theme that runs through Michael Crichton's fiction is THE PLAN. There usually is this very intricate plan put in place by some very smart protagonists. This plan is challenged... and sometimes goes wrong in the course of his novels.

  • A major part of our discussion in this show revolved around Warren Bonesteel's article "Social Singularity."

  • Stephen played Five for Fighting's "What Kind of World do you Want?" Click through to see the video and hear the song in its entirety.

  • Stephen mentioned the company - Crayon. It's a marketing firm that employs people regardless of their geographical location. Stephen thinks that the dispersed corporation is a powerful hybrid that blends the old business model - a corporation - with the power of ad hoc groups.

Our front bumper is a sample of Marginal Prophets' "The Difficult Song."

Our exit music this week is from Daydream on Autopilot. The song is "Call Me."
