FastForward Radio

Sunday night your hosts Phil Bowermaster, Stephen Gordon, and Michael Darling discussed weird ideas about the future... both past-futures that turned out to be bizarrely wrong and very strange futures that may turn out to be right.

Obviously, predicting the future is difficult. Given the uncertainty, do Futurists still have a role to play in preparing us for the future?

Our apologies to our listeners. We had technical difficulties in the middle of the show. At 40:15 we had to log out and then log back in to get the show up and going again. We were back on at 41:35. That's 45 seconds of silence.

Because we had that problem, we decided to go about 20 minutes longer. That's right. 45 seconds bought 20 minutes - a good deal anytime. :-)

The topics:

  • General Motors 1939 New York World's Fair Futurama Exhibit

And here's a video of that exhibit at Youtube.

  • What many often call futurism, is more properly known as Futurology.

Our front bumper is a sample of Marginal Prophets' "The Difficult Song."

Our exit music this week is from Porter Block. The song is "Second Wind."

It's interesting that the conversation Michael and I had about whether we should dial back in got recorded -- apparently no one could hear that while it was happening, but now it has been preserved for posterity!
