First Bees, Now Bats
I wonder if there's a connection? The obvious link would be if bats feed on bees (or honey), which I suppose some do, but I doubt that's it.

Its sabotage committed by flying squirrels, jealous of bats always getting the label "only flying mammal" in so many news reports.

You're right, Harvey. Pardon me while I go slit my wrists in overwhelming grief over the passing of these noble creatures.
Seriously. Yes, it is sad that these bats are dying, and it is a good thing that it has come to attention of the scientist who can study it, find out why, what needs to be done, and the best way to do it. However, I am not one of them. I am a librarian. So I will snark and make jokes and applaud these men and women when they come up with a solution.
