Newsflash: Xena has a Sidekick
Not that Xena. This Xena:
The 10th planet that was announced in July (and nicknamed Xena) has a moon (which can be seen to the right of the planet in the above picture).
The Astronomers who discovered it didn't have to search too long for a name. It's Gabrielle. Well, at least unofficially.
No word yet on whether Xena has a ring.
Comments
I doubt that any of the newly discovered objects will ever be recognized as planets, size relative to Pluto notwithstanding. I could be wrong, of course. If there's another gas giant lurking out there in Oort cloud, I imagine it would have to be recognized.
If anything, I think many astronomers would like to demote Pluto rather than expanding the list of planets. But I think Pluto may be grandfathered in. And nine is such a nice number.
