Singularitarians

By | April 7, 2006

You know who you are. We aren’t ready to publish full results yet, but the survey results are showing that between 90 and 95 percent of Speculist readers are of the opinion that — one way or another — the Singularity will happen.

The results are breaking down in some surprising ways (more on that later) but I guess it’s no real surpise where most of you stand on that first question.

Results like these make it funny when people, like Dr. James Hughes for example, try to say that Singularity-enthusiasts are a relatively small part of transhumanism – when they’re not. People against Singularitarian ideas just tend to be against them strongly, because they grab so much attention, and in referring to them as held by a minority seek to downplay the extremeness to critical outsiders.

    This survey is really exciting!
